Funtastic Unit Studies Science Review

I loved Science when I was in school, I was a tomboy growing up. Always running around, no shoes on, and trying to climb trees. Those were the days. So now that I have kids, I'd like them to enjoy Science as well, so anything that we can try, we'll try. That's why I was so excited to try Funtastic Unit Studies and their product Science Unit Studies For Homeschoolers and Teachers.

What we received

We received a paperback book entitled Science Unit Studies for Homeschoolers and Teachers for Ages 4-13. It was split up into different age groups; for ages 4-7 and then 8-13.

Here Austin is working on a chapter called Plants II, which is listed in the ages 8-13 section. There are 20 chapters in the book, so that should tell you that it's a pretty good size. There are at least 200 pages counting the answer sheets and the notes section. They each have at least an activity, lesson, and then test at the end of the lesson. Each lesson contains at least 5 parts to it.

Cameron is here working on a chapter entitled Atoms and Molecules, which is listed in the ages 8-13 section also. It contains the Periodic Table of the Elements to go along with his lesson, which I thought was pretty neat.

What we liked

I liked how each lesson had at least one activity involved. I also liked that there were different Science topics for each age level. II couldn't find anything wrong with the book. I just have one request, to make the answer pages in the back “easy-tear”. I have to tear out the answers before I give the boys any kind of book or they'll cheat when I turn my back. I also liked the extras like the periodic table I mentioned above. The boys liked that there were different activities to go along with their lessons. They also liked how the lessons weren't terribly long. That's always a plus when their happy, right?

I liked how it suggested movies to watch along with what they were learning, of course most were The Magic School Bus, the awesome part is that they included the names of which ones to watch, besides who doesn't love The Magic School Bus!

The book even has a Language Arts lesson or English lesson depending on how you look at it, about how to write a research report.

The book sells for $16.95.

You can purchase it at:

Barnes & Noble

Rainbow Resource

I'd suggest this book if whether you are new to homeschooling or have been doing it for a while. It's such a great science book filled with different science topics.

If you go to their site you can find other subjects; like Math, History, and Language Arts and there are freebies.
