How To Host The Perfect Christmas Dinner For Your Family

Since Christmas is only around the corner, it’s likely that you’ll be thinking of starting to buy your Christmas gifts, if you haven’t already.

One thing that’s just as important, if not more, than presents, is planning your Christmas dinner, especially if you’re hosting a large portion of your family. If you want to get your Christmas just right and be the perfect hostess, then follow the advice below.

Food

There are plenty of things that you can buy well in advance and freeze until Christmas Day, or a day or two before, including the turkey, bread sauce, and stuffing. This will save you the stress of preparing several different dishes on the same day when you should be spending time with your loved ones.

Plan when each of your foods needs to be put in the oven and taken out, and set timers, so that there’s no guesswork, and you don’t risk burning or undercooking anything.

Decoration

It’s very likely that you will already have a large amount of Christmas ornaments, banners, and trees brightening up your home, but now it’s time to focus on your dining room and table. You may want to put up a tree in there, if you haven't already, as well as some fairly lights and banners.

A colorful tablecloth and some confetti will also brighten up the room. Avoid placing flowers on the table, as the scent could be overpowering, and instead opt for faux flowers, or unscented candles.

Appliances & Utensils

To avoid any major disasters on Christmas day, ensure that all of your appliances, including your fridge, freezer, and oven all work well. While most prefer to drink bubbly all day, others prefer a nice coffee, tea, or hot chocolate on Christmas, so ensure you’re kettle has some life in it too.

If not, now may be the time to purchase a new stainless steel tea kettle. Also, make sure you have enough plates and cutlery; If you don’t, then ask your family to bring their own rather than fork out on buying extra that you won’t use after Christmas.

Entertainment

When hosting Christmas dinner, the actual dinner takes up a rather small portion of the day, so you need to come up with something to do to fill this time. Before dinner, my family likes to relax and watch Christmas films, and get our heads around any of the gifts and gadgets that we’ve been bought.

During dinner, you’re going to want a playlist of Christmas music on quietly in the background, just to set the mood. After food is when the real fun begins, the boys get to play with the things they just got.

Christmas is all about spending time with your loved ones, and what better way to do that than host Christmas dinner for your entire family. This is no simple endeavor though and requires a lot of thought and planning.

Hopefully, this advice will make your life a little easier come Christmas day, and mean that you can spend more time with your family, and less time stressing over everything else.
