Having a very particular child with Aspergers Syndrome can be pretty hard. They seem to not have any emotions unless their toy breaks. They have meltdowns over small things, but big things don't seem to phase them.
Their little tics can be bothersome, like picking acne on their face until they bleed, or bumps on the arm from mosquito bites until they bleed, or even humming 24/7 (exaggeration).
But we as parents deal with this all because we love them and only want the best for them. We worry if they'll grow up and be able to hold a job, find a girlfriend, get married, and have kids. No one knows what the future holds for my son.
::hugs:: HOLD ONTO HOPE. Hope knows no bounds. And while our children might not ever reach the goals and dreams that we have for them—–they are going to reach their own goals and dreams. We get to celebrate milestones that others overlook, and these kids will teach us something every single day if we will just listen.
It IS super hard having a child with autism. But, their so totally worth it because they are so amazing.
The sky is the limit π all they need is our love & support, and a few therapeutic accommodations and behavior modification and these kiddos can really FLY! No one will EVER be as proud of their child who is graduating college as you will be—-it will be the happiest day of your life. My heart swells thinking about this.
Have hope. Our kids—–some feel they are the evolution of our species consciousness. I don’t know if THAT’s true, but I DO know that our kids can accomplish anything they want and they will overcome amazing challenges. And as you watch them grow, you’ll learn more from them then you’d ever know.
::hugs:: I have some resources on my website, http://www.mypuzzlingpiece.com. It’s geared towards newly diagnosed families & military families. My son was diagnosed in Jan, so it’s been an emotional roller coaster this year.
Know that we are in this together. π
Thank you for your kind words and resources π Yes we will be more proud of them when they graduate than anyone else because we know the struggle that they went through to get to that point. I love my boys, they are so smart, the behavior modifications are needed at this point, but it is there to help THEM succeed.
